What's Next for HIFLD
We have exciting news for the Data Rescue Project community! Thanks to our partners at the Public Environmental Data Partners and Fulton Ring, the rescued HIFLD data has become part of HIFLD Next, a new platform for discovering and accessing the 400-plus infrastructure- and resilience-related data layers from the US Department of Homeland Security’s defunct HIFLD Open data portal. As Frank Donnelly from Brown University notes, “This collection provides foundational geospatial layers for the nation as a whole. While useful for any type of GIS project, it is particularly important for emergency management, regional planning, and suitability analysis.”
HIFLD Next is possible thanks to the work of dozens (!) of DRP volunteers who worked to rescue the data layers and make them available in DataLumos, especially Frank, tripleshrimp, Chiara, and sefk.
If you’re interested, we ask that you get involved to shape the new platform. The creators are interested in hearing your feedback and use cases, especially from the DRP community.
