SOS! Help Save Our Signs Today
A view of the Grand Canyon.

The Save Our Signs Project team needs your help – and soon. The Washington Post reported on Tuesday morning that sites across the country have been targeted for erasure, including Grand Canyon, Glacier, Big Bend, and Zion. Save Our Signs needs your help to document these educational materials before they disappear:

  • Save photos before signs are removed:  The Washington Post lists materials ordered to be removed soon from NPS sites across the country.  Visit these at-risk sites and take photos of every sign you see:
    • Grand Canyon National Park (Arizona)
    • Glacier National Park (Montana)
    • Big Bend National Park (Texas)
    • Bent’s Old Fort National Historic Site (Colorado)
    • Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site (Arizona)
    • Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument (Arizona)
    • Grand Teton National Park (Wyoming)
    • Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument (Montana)
    • Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument (Arizona, reported in another Washington Post article)
    • Check our map and spreadsheet to see where else we need more photos. Any site with only a few photos probably has more signs to capture!
  • Document censorship: Do you see a blank space where an exhibit has vanished, or were you there when it was being removed? Submit photos of spaces where signs have been removed or altered.
  • Document resistance: Has anyone created art, their own panel, or something else in a clear act of protest, and shared it at an NPS site? Submit photos of these creative responses.
  • Check your old photos:  The Washington Post reported several new removals of exhibits and educational panels at Grand Canyon National Park. But, Save Our Signs does NOT have photos of these removed exhibits and panels. Scroll through past vacation photos, and see if you have photos of these interpretive panels, and submit them to the SOS form.

Reminder:  As with the first round of images, we ask that you do not upload photos with people in them.

Help us continue to track these removals on our “Erasure in Action” page. This erasure is in full force, and we need your help to continue to #SaveOurSigns.
