Events! RDAP Hackathon and HIFLD Office Hours
Before we talk about events, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our community of volunteers for your interest in and support for the project to back up HIFLD Open. HIFLD Open was a collection of open datasets that acted as a “digital go bag” for communities to help them manage disaster response or other large events. It was taken offline by the Department of Homeland Security at the end of September.
If you missed the call for volunteers for this project, it’s not too late! On Wednesday, October 29th, 4:30 Eastern/1:30 Pacific, we will be holding an office hours call to go over the HIFLD backup workflow, troubleshoot, and commiserate. Use this link for the office hours.
Next, on Thursday, November 13th at 1:00 PM Eastern/10:00 AM Pacific, we are joining forces with RDAP to host a virtual Data Rescue Hackathon. We will have a short intro to data rescue, followed by going into breakout rooms to work! We are planning to work on uploading some public CDC datasets to Data Lumos and enhancing metadata for some public datasets that have already been rescued by ICPSR. This event is open to all, and you can register at this link.
We hope to see you at one of these events!
Thank you again to all of the volunteers – you make the Data Rescue Project flow. 🌊 🛟
