Updates from the DRP & Office Hours
Our DRP Steering Committee is so thankful for all the work of our volunteers and our partners. We are grateful to be part of this incredible community working to preserve and raise awareness of the importance of public data. We want you to know how significant you all are to that effort! The past eight months have been long and challenging, but the community strengthens each of us. Today's post reflects on some of the accomplishments and highlights.
Announcements
- Join us for office hours this coming Wednesday, October 1 at 4:30 PM. New registration link.
- DRP volunteers have uploaded over 800 datasets in DataLumos. The latest statistics from ICPSR show that the datasets have been downloaded over 8000 times. We also received a notification recently that a student was able to finish their dissertation because of the data available in DataLumos!
- We still have data for rescue and need help adding data to the tracker. If you have questions about where to get started, send us an email at datarescueproject@protonmail.com.
- The #SaveOurSigns campaign has over 10,000 pics from over 300 NPS sites. They recently redesigned their website and added a Project Updates page and a Sister Projects page with information about the Citizen Historians for the Smithsonian.
- We attended a convening with PEDP and others last week. It was great to meet leaders in the environmental data community, talk about the work of the DRP, and plan for the future of public data support. We will share their report once it is available.
- Also one of the PEDP members, Jessie Mahr was recently named a Forbes 2025 Global Sustainability Leader. Congrats Jessie!
Upcoming
- We are getting DRP stickers!
- We are planning an AMA night in early October and a data rescue event in late October or early November.
- We have some funding leads and some partnerships that will be announced soon.
We can’t wait to share more with you all!
