Thank you, Carla

Thank you, Carla

Today, we've heard the sad news that Dr. Carla Hayden, our Librarian of Congress, has been fired. Dr. Hayden has inspired the many librarians involved with the Data Rescue Project. She was the first woman and first African American to serve as the Librarian of Congress. Moreover, she was the first professional librarian to hold the position since Lawrence Quincy Mumford in 1974. Her appointment as the lead librarian of the country was an exciting moment for librarians as professionals and individuals.

The DRP Steering Committee wanted to take a moment to recognize her work. As the Librarian of Congress, she has done an incredible job modernizing the institution as well as serving as a public figure for librarianship. We have appreciated all her work and her grace. She is an inspiration and will remain the Librarian of the People.
