October Office Hour
Come to October's Office Hour to learn more about the DRP Baserow Tracker and how to use OpenRefine for common metadata tasks!
In this office hour, we will take a closer look at DRP's Baserow Tracker–used to create records for rescued datasets–and how to prepare data for batch import into the tracker. There will be a brief introduction to the backend tables, followed by a review of DRP's new batch import guide and template. Using the example of a batch import, we will demonstrate how to use the popular open source data wrangling tool OpenRefine for common metadata tasks.
All volunteers are welcome to join! This office hour will be particularly useful for volunteers engaged in batch-rescuing datasets who want to learn how to prepare their spreadsheet data for import into the DRP Tracker. It is also intended for those interested in learning about OpenRefine.
The office hour will be led by DRP's Metadata Specialist Karen Hwang, who has been using OpenRefine for a variety of projects since 2014, including large-scale migrations between repositories, linked open data creation to promote interoperability, and evaluating inventories to support archival arrangement.
Join us on Tuesday, October 13 at 12 pm ET/9 am PT for a hands-on Office Hours with our new Metadata Analyst. Learn how we use OpenRefine for data rescue. We will also discuss our new process for volunteers who rescue multiple datasets at once and prefer to create a spreadsheet for bulk upload.
